First of all, let us mention that, even now, for ordinary dialect carriers it is unclear to which language \u2013 Ukrainian or Byelorussian \u2013 their subdialects belong. Pidlyashuky themselves define their speech as: our language <em>\u043f\u0440\u0430\u0432\u043e\u0441\u043b\u0430\u0432\u043d\u0430, \u043c\u0456\u0448\u0430\u043d\u0430, \u043d\u043e\u0440\u043c\u0430\u043b\u044c\u043d\u0430, \u043c\u0438 \u0433\u043e\u0432\u043e\u0440\u0438\u043c\u043e\u043f\u043e-\u0441\u0432\u043e\u0439\u043e\u043c\u0443<\/em>, <em>\u043f\u043e-\u043d\u0430\u0448\u043e\u043c\u0443<\/em>, <em>\u043f\u043e-\u043f\u0440\u043e\u0441\u0442\u043e\u043c\u0443<\/em>, <em>\u043f\u043e-\u0442\u0443\u0442\u0435\u0439\u0448\u043e\u043c\u0443<\/em>, <em>\u043f\u043e-\u0434\u0430\u0432\u043d\u0456\u0448\u043e\u043c\u0443<\/em> and even <em>\u043d\u0435\u0432\u0456\u0434\u043e\u043c\u043e \u043f\u043e-\u044f\u043a\u043e\u043c\u0443<\/em>. But the most common definition for Podlaskie subdialects \u2013 <em>\u0445\u0430\u0445\u043b\u0430\u0446\u044c\u043a\u0430 \u043c\u043e\u0432\u0430<\/em> \u2013 is used without any negative connotations. This relative adjective originates from the nomen <em>\u0445\u0430\u0445\u043b\u0438<\/em>, which was used to denote the indigenous people (this name, according to M. Lesiv, was brought from the royal army by the demobilized boys, who were defined so according to the peculiarities of their Ukrainian speech because malorosy are the same as khakhly).<\/p>\n<p>The dialect carriers divide \u00a0<em>\u0445\u0430\u0445\u043b\u0430\u0446\u044c\u043a\u0443 \u043c\u043e\u0432\u0443<\/em><em>\u00a0 <\/em>into \u201chard\u201d (<em>\u0445\u043e\u0434\u0438\u0442\u0438, \u043d\u043e\u0441\u0438\u043b\u0438, \u0430\u043b\u0435<\/em>) \u00a0and \u201csoft\u201d (<em>\u0445\u043e\u0434\u0438\u0442\u0456 \u01c0\u01c0 \u0445\u043e\u0434\u0456\u0442\u0456, \u043d\u043e\u0441\u0438\u043b\u0456 \u01c0\u01c0 \u043d\u043e\u0441\u0456\u043b\u0456, \u0430\u043b\u0456 \u01c0\u01c0 \u0430\u043b\u0454<\/em>) ones.<\/p>\n<p>The analysis of the dialect carriers\u2019 modern speech, in particular \u2013 the continuates *<strong><em>\u0113<\/em><\/strong>(<em><sup>\u01c0<\/sup>\u043b\u02b9\u0456\u0442\u043e, \u0434\u02b9\u035c\u0456\u0435\u0434<\/em>) and *<strong><em>\u043e<\/em><\/strong> in the newly closed syllables (<em>\u0432\u2019\u0456\u043a, \u0432\u2019\u0456\u043d, \u0434\u0432\u2019\u0456\u0440, \u043a\u2019\u0456\u043d\u02b9, \u043a\u2019\u0456\u0442, \u043f\u0438\u0441\u0442, \u0440\u035c\u0443\u0456\u043a<\/em>), testifies that Podlaskie reflex actions are the most typical phonetic features of the Ukrainian language, which unite Podlaskie subdialects with the speech of the inhabitants of Western and Middle Polissia and Volyn.
