Abstract:<\/b><\/strong>\u00a0<\/b><\/strong>The paper concentrates on the works that can serve as a source base to clarify the dynamics of dialectal accentual system. It is noted that not all written monuments can be used to study the dynamic processes of Ukrainian accentual system because the accent places weren\u2019t systematically marked in the Ukrainian written monuments till the XVI century; at the same time the reflection of linguistic phenomena in general and accentuation in particular may depend on the linguistic experience of the authors and their orientation on certain patterns and on the historical development of the people, the situation due to the political and economic conditions. It is established that at the beginning of the 20th century Eastern and Western versions of literary language continued to function.<\/p>\n

At the accent level the \u201cGrammar of Ukrainian (Ruthenian) language\u201d by S. Smal-Stotskyi and T.\u00a0Gartner (Vienna, 1914) and the anthology \u201cHome\u201d edited by P. Kulish (Petersburg, 1860) played an important role in the codification of the Ukrainian language. The format of the article does not allow to present a systematic analysis, that\u2019s why the brightest accent characteristics revealed in these works were determined and compared with the accent system of dialectal environment. The prerequisite for this comparative study was the analysis of dialectal speech on the accent level. It was found that even a cursory review of accentuation presented in the \u201cGrammar of Ukrainian (Ruthenian) language\u201d by S. Smal-Stotskyi and F. Gartner and the anthology \u201cHome\u201d edited by P. Kulish shows a clear orientation of authors on the linguistic environment: in the grammar \u2013 south-western, in the anthology \u2013 south-eastern. Accent features revealed in these sources are inherent to modern Ukrainian dialects. The results of research indicate that despite the purpose of analyzed works to codify Ukrainian language every written monument reflects dialectal accentuation.<\/p>\n
