EDITORIAL POLICY OF ACADEMIC INTEGRITY AND ETHICAL NORMS
Publication Ethics
The editorial board of the journal “Ukrainian language”, published by the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine and the Institute of the Ukrainian language of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, adheres to the established requirements for manuscripts of articles. These requirements are determined by the quality standards of scientific works adopted in the world scientific community: the Publishing Ethics Resource Kit (PERK) publication principles, the recommendations of Elsevier, the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE), the Code of Ethics of a Scientist of Ukraine, as well as the experience of foreign and Ukrainian scientific organizations and editorial boards.
The editorial board of the journal “Ukrainian language” in its work is guided by international ethical rules for scientific publications, which cover the concepts of integrity, confidentiality, supervision of publications and prevention of possible conflicts of interest; encourages authors to adhere to the appropriate level of formal and ethical requirements for the preparation and publication of articles.
Ethical obligations
Authors’ responsibility
The author must submit only the original manuscript of the article to the journal. It is not possible to submit a manuscript that has been submitted to another journal, as well as an article published earlier. Failure to comply with these requirements is a gross violation of publication ethics and gives grounds for removing the article from review. If elements of the manuscript have previously been taken into account in another article, authors are required to refer to their previous article and indicate what is the significant difference between the new article and the previous one. Copying their own works verbatim and paraphrasing them is prohibited; they can only be used as a basis for new conclusions.
The main obligation of the author is to provide an accurate report of the research conducted, as well as an objective discussion of its significance. The author must present his results clearly and unambiguously, so that his conclusions can be confirmed by other researchers.
The author of the article is responsible for its content, novelty and reliability of the results and guarantees that the research results presented in it are independent and original. In case of using fragments of other people’s works or borrowing statements of other authors, the article must have appropriate bibliographic references with the obligatory indication of the author and the original source. Excessive borrowing, as well as plagiarism in any form, including unformatted quotes, paraphrasing or assignment of rights to the results of other people’s research, are unethical and unacceptable actions. The editorial board of the journal does not accept articles that are a compilation of materials published by other authors without their creative processing and their own author’s understanding.
The author must cite those publications that have significantly influenced the essence of the submitted article, as well as those that can quickly familiarize the reader with earlier works that are important for understanding this research. It is also necessary to provide sources of fundamentally important materials used in this article, if these materials were not received by the author himself.
Co-authors of the article may be those persons who have made a significant scientific contribution to the presented research and who are responsible for the obtained results.
The author is responsible for ensuring that only those persons who do not contradict the authorship criteria and agree to be responsible for other co-authors of the article for its publication in the journal are included in the list of co-authors.
Authors must inform the editor-in-chief of any potential conflict of interest that may affect the publication of the submitted manuscript.
Authors must clearly indicate the sources of all cited or presented information and properly cite references to literary sources used in the article in accordance with the requirements of DSTU 8302:2015 “Information and documentation. Bibliographic reference. General provisions and rules of compilation”: https://nv-oneu.com.ua/downloads/dstu-8302-2015.pdf
Reviewers’ Responsibilities
Manuscripts are reviewed by at least two experts in order to reach an objective decision as quickly as possible. Reviewers are asked to report any conflicts of interest.
Reviewers are not expected to carefully edit the manuscript for structural or linguistic reasons, but to focus on its scientific quality and overall style, which should be consistent with current practices of clear and concise academic writing. If reviewers recognize that the manuscript requires editing, they should inform the author and the editor-in-chief in their conclusion.
Reviewers are asked to check whether the manuscript is scientifically sound and clear and of acceptable quality. The criteria for evaluating the manuscript are described in detail in the Guidelines for Reviewers.
In the event of fundamental disagreements between the author and the reviewers, the editor-in-chief resolves them independently or with the members of the journal’s editorial board.
Reviewers are asked to be polite and constructive in their conclusions. Offensive or uninformative conclusions will be rejected.
Reviewers should not read manuscripts in which they have a conflict of interest resulting from competitive, joint or other relationships, connections with any authors, companies or institutions associated with the author of the manuscript.
Original author manuscripts are reviewed confidentially.
Reviewers’ information about the manuscript must be confidential and cannot be transferred to third parties.
Reviewers should clearly express their opinion and argue for it.
Reviewers should also draw the attention of the editor-in-chief to any significant similarity or coincidence between the submitted manuscript and any other published article of which they are aware.
Responsibility of the editor-in-chief
The editor-in-chief is responsible for the scientific quality of published articles, making decisions only on the basis of relevance, originality, clarity and relevance to the linguistic field.
The editor-in-chief must ensure that all research articles comply with international ethical principles and the publication ethics of the publication, and also prevent any conflicts of interest between authors, reviewers and members of the editorial board.
The editor-in-chief must not reject articles on the basis of suspicions, without convincing evidence of improper behavior of the author.
The editor-in-chief, together with the editorial board, must necessarily respond to the expression of a claim to reviewed manuscripts or published materials. Having established a conflict situation, they must take all measures to restore violated rights, and having discovered errors, they must facilitate the publication of corrections or refutations.
The editor-in-chief must maintain the anonymity of reviewers if they do not want to name themselves as regulated by ethical norms.
Responsibility of the Editorial Board
The Editorial Board is responsible for the preparation of the journal. It has the right to reject the manuscript or return it for revision. The author submits the revised manuscript of the article to the editorial office of the journal.
When deciding on the publication of an article, the Editorial Board of the journal takes into account the reliability of the conclusion provided by the reviewers and the scientific significance of this article.
The Editorial Board impartially studies all submitted manuscripts of articles, objectively evaluates each article, regardless of the racial, religious, national origin, as well as the position or place of work of the author. It makes fair and impartial decisions, independent of commercial or other interests, and ensures honest review.
The Editorial Board may reject a submitted manuscript without review if it believes that it does not correspond to the scientific and theoretical status of the journal.
The editorial board of the journal opposes falsification, plagiarism, submission of the same article by the author to several journals, repeated copying of the article in different publications, misleading the public about their real contribution to the research.
The editorial board has the right to withdraw even a published article if violations of someone’s rights or generally accepted standards of scientific ethics are detected. It informs both the author and the organization where it was written about the withdrawal of the article.
The editorial board of the journal must ensure the confidentiality of the names and other information related to the reviewers.
After a positive response from the reviewers and approval of the article at a meeting of the editorial board, it is published in the journal and submitted to the relevant electronic resources.
Neither the editor-in-chief nor the members of the editorial board can use unpublished materials from manuscripts submitted for publication for personal purposes or transfer them to third parties (without written consent).
The author, editor-in-chief, reviewers, and members of the editorial board must declare their scientific interests that may affect the objectivity of reviewing and editing manuscripts (a case of conflict of interest). These may include intellectual, financial, personal, political, or religious interests.
Prevention of illegal publications is the responsibility of the author, editor-in-chief, and reviewer.
