Abstract: The article deals with the formal grammatical typology and the semantic structure of secondary names that describe the events of November 2013– February 2014, which entered the Ukrainian history under the name of the Revolution of Dignity. The author has established the internal differentiation of the component structures and partial affiliation of secondary names included in the peripheral field “Revolution of Dignity” (simple phrases, complex phrases, complex sentences, noun-noun phrases, noun-adjective phrases, noun-numeric phrases, appositional nouns, collocations with subordinate linkers, phrases with determining participles and identifying words; complex sentences with relative clauses). The article defines the cognitive mechanism of forming the periphrastic phrases, sets the criteria for nominating descriptive names (nominative and pragmatic intentions for coining names, the chronology of events in the context of the new and out-of-date changes in the Ukrainian society, consequences, purpose, status, moral values, the prospect of the event), sets explicators of differentiated semantics attached to it or by periphrastic expression (grammatically dominant components if they are informative adequacy or valence partners, and if these components are not sufficient). The author has described the substantial constituents of phrases with a multicomponent structure, and distinguished meaningful markers in these lexical and semantic phrases. The distinctive function is commonly taken over by the adjectives of different qualitative and evaluative nature, and sometimes by numeral adjectives. The research is based on extra-linguistic factors, especially those that characterize various stages of the Revolution of Dignity, and help to find out symmetric-asymmetric links between the investigated event and the spectrum of its secondary names.
