Abstract: The article analyses the phenomenon of the authorial terms. Clarified views on authorial terminological systems, and the necessity of further elaboration of the problem of terminological thinking, represented in terms of authors and terminology, is substantiated.
The fact that there is no definition and dictionary article to authorial term (and of course, the author) is highlighted. Although speculation about these phenomena finds in books and scientific articles on various sectoral analysis terminological systems is described.
It’s an attempt to resolve the following questions:
- Who is the author of the term: researcher (or research team), who formulated the original idea to the phenomenon or researcher (or research team), who nominated this phenomenon.
- Is it possible to identify and recognize the authorship of common concepts in society?
- How to qualify the nominations proposed by various researchers to refer to the same or similar concepts.
- How to interpret authorial terms to refer to similar concepts.
The emergence of the authorial terms caused to the desire to find the most appropriate name for the idea that already existed (and exists) in science, as well as the need to find a new name for the linguistic phenomenon is emphasized.
The fact that a component of the term “authorial” indicates an understanding of the functional role of the subject of terms, and also makes impossible to unambiguously resolve the problem of qualification of copyright terms is emphasised.
Сonclusion is made that the authorial term is an original linguistic unit that is a component of the researcher’s metalanguage, and which can potentially extend beyond the primary conceptual field and entering to the usage.
Keywords: author, authorial term, terminological thinking, terminothetes, ‘term-giver’.
