REVIEW POLICY

Reviewing manuscripts is an important stage in the process of their publication as articles. The editorial board of the journal “Ukrainian language” adheres to global standards of transparency in review.

We review and edit manuscripts of articles free of charge.

Reviewing manuscripts consists of two stages: internal and external evaluation.

Internal review (preliminary evaluation in the editorial office)
All manuscripts received by the editorial office of the journal are checked by the editor-in-chief for the purpose, topic, and reactionary policy of the publication. Manuscripts that do not meet the topic or editorial policy of the publication are rejected, and those that do not meet the journal’s requirements for structure and design are returned to the authors for revision, who have the right to resubmit them to the editorial office of the journal.

Materials submitted to the sections “Scientific figures of Ukrainian linguists”, “Reviews and reviews”, “Scientific chronicle”, “Unforgettable names” are not subject to review.

If the author has not sent the revised manuscript of the article within 20 calendar days, we consider that this manuscript is not under review by the journal editorial office.

Manuscripts of articles in which, after checking for plagiarism in the Unichesk, a significant percentage of text borrowings are detected, are sent to the authors for revision. If plagiarism is established, the manuscript of the article is returned to the author without the right to resubmit it.

After fulfilling all the requirements for internal review, the author’s manuscript of the article is submitted for external review (expert evaluation).

External review (evaluated by independent experts)
All manuscripts of articles submitted for publication are subject to double-blind review by at least two external reviewers who are experts in the scientific field of a particular article.

Reviewers are appointed as experts in the scientific problem to which the article is devoted. Members of the editorial board may also be reviewers.

Reviewers must adhere to international review practices, in particular the Recommendations for Reviewers from the European Association of Science Editors, the Web of Science Academy, and the requirements of this publication.

Reviewers are obliged to inform the editorial office as soon as possible of all possible conflicts of interest and to adhere to the principle of confidentiality when processing the manuscript of the article, in particular not to use or reproduce it in whole or in part, and not to disclose information about the reviewed manuscript.

The reviewer must provide an objective assessment of the quality of the manuscript, determine whether it meets high scientific standards and linguistic norms, and convincingly substantiate their conclusions. Reviewers do not edit the linguistic and stylistic design of manuscripts, but they report any violations to the author and the journal editor.

The reviewer must respect the intellectual level of the author.

The reviewer must draw the editor’s attention to any significant similarity between the reviewed manuscript and another published article.

The reviewer must provide a timely response to the manuscript of the article. The total review period cannot exceed 30 calendar days from the date the article is received by the reviewer.

The reviewer must not use or disclose unpublished information provided in the manuscript without the consent of the author or authors.

The editorial board must not influence the reviewer’s response.

The author of the manuscript is informed about the results of the review. In case of disagreement with the comments made, the author has the right to express his own wishes and comments, which are communicated to the reviewer by the journal editorial board, observing anonymity. If there are two or more negative reviews, the manuscript of the article is rejected. If there are opposite reviews, then additional review is assigned, involving a new expert. Discussion between the author and the reviewer can take place only through the mediation of the editorial board of the journal “Ukrainian language”. In case of incorrect behavior of the author, the editorial board has the right to refuse to publish the article.

After anonymous expert review, the article, revised as necessary, is transferred to the members of the editorial board. They can express their comments at the editorial board meeting, which the author must take into account, otherwise the article is rejected.

The final decision on the recommendation of the article for publication is made by the editorial board of the journal “Ukrainian language”.

After editing the manuscript and preparing it for publication, the author is given the right to familiarize himself with the first and, if necessary, with the second layout for the final approval of corrections.

The procedure outlined above is the basic procedure for the work of reviewers, the editorial staff and members of the editorial board with submitted manuscripts. Force majeure circumstances that may arise during the review are discussed by the author and the editorial staff of the journal “Ukrainian language”.

Authors’ appeal

Authors may appeal the refusal to publish the article. The procedure for such an appeal is described in the section “Procedure for considering complaints”.
