Abstract: The article substantiates the commonality of prepositions and linking words as morphemes of the syntactic sphere on the basis of their inherent transpositive function, the essence of which is to transfer units of one classes of parts of language into others by them, it have been found out their differences in the implementation of this function, have been characterized the features of connection between both classes of functional units with synthetic morphemes, words and analytical syntactic morphemes, it is emphasized on the qualitatively different connection of prepositions with case endings of transposed nouns from the coordination of forms of verbal connecting elements and forms of verbalized noun parts of the language in the position of the main part of a compound predicate, it is marked the specifics of the expression of grammatical meanings by native- and non-native-linking words, it is indicated on the incompleteness of the personal and temporal paradigms of the syntactic verbs they created, have been compared the only one transposing function of linking words with the typical, but not the only one, transpositive function of prepositions, what caused an asymmetry between native- and non-native-prepositional functions that they carry out in a post-verb and pre-numerical position, have been traced the features of the dynamics of the composition of prepositions and linking words, the main reasons for the appearance of the new functional equivalents of prepositions and contextual linking words, have been outlined the parameters of the use of such new units in the processes of transposition – respectively, in adverbialization of nouns and verbalization of nouns and adjectives.
