The results of a comprehensive analysis of the language situation in the modern Ukrainian school are presented in the monograph. On the large data set, it is substantiated that the parameters of interaction of languages in schools are not regulated by regulations. They are determined by the patterns of spontaneous communication, which causes to the heterogeneity of the language situation in school education in the country. The discrepancy between the statistics on the number of pupils involved in learning Ukrainian and the real facts of the functioning of languages in the school education system is interpreted in the context of post-totalitarian deformations of the language situation in Ukraine. The book contains the testimonies of the focus group discussions, students, their parents and teachers which can serve as the material for further studies on the problems of the relationship between language and society.
